Summer is here! Break out the sandals and flip-flops! STOP Look at those feet. If you're feeling that way, we have some suggestions to get them toes to twinkling and the feet velvety smooth! Painted toenails and flashy footwear cannot disguise rough calluses. So let's get started.
Exfoliate: The first thing you are going to want to do is exfoliate. Scrub and file those calluses. There are several really good products that you can use. One of the best is Baby Foot. It comes as two booties. You put one on each foot and leave it on for an hour, then rinse off. Peeling will begin within 3-7 days.
Keep Toenails Clipped Correctly: Clip toenails once a week. Long toenails increase your chances of ingrown toenails, which can be painful and require medical attention. Long toenails are also uncomfortable when you wear shoes with closed toes because the nails dig into the shoe, placing pressure on your toenails. Trimming regularly also helps to keep your toenails from splitting.
Trim your toenails until they are about the length of your toes. If they are too long, they will split.
Square off your toenails rather than curving them. Squaring off your toenails helps prevent ingrown toenails, as the edges keep the skin from crowding back over the toe.
Keep the Nail Clean: Clean under your nails with a toothbrush. The toothbrush helps remove any dirt under your toenails. In the shower, add a little soap to the toothbrush, and then scrub your toenails clean. Be sure not to scrub too hard, as you could break the skin. TIP: If you want your toenails whiter, use a whitening toothpaste in addition to the toothbrush.
Use a foot file when needed. An essential for keeping feet in sandal shape is a foot file. Before using, give your feet a good soak in warm, soapy water. If you want a more spa-like soak, you might want to try Essie Foot Alert or CND's SPA Bright Citron Soak. Dry them and then use gentle pressure to slough away dead skin cells, If the callus is too thick, you might want to apply a callus remover first. Qtica Smart Spa Callus Gone Quick Gel is great.
Moisturize Daily with a good Foot Cream. Keep your feet looking their best with a good foot moisturizer. Products made specifically for the foot are better at penetrating the soles of your feet than a normal body lotion. If you're on your feet all day and want both moisturizing and relief, then Spa Ritual's Sole Mate Foot Balm is perfect!
