BEAUTY SCIENCE: Biotin

Biotin, also known as Vitamin B7 or H, is a B vitamin found in small amounts in a number of foods, such as eggs and nuts. It is often added to oral hair growth supplements to nourish thinning hair and help promote hair growth. One symptom of Biotin deficiency can be thinning hair or discoloration (greying) of hair. A diet rich in Biotin, or hair growth supplements containing the B vitamin , can help promote existing hair growth and keeping the pigment cells in the hair follicles healthy.

Use your concealer correctly to hide the under-eye bags

Everyone needs a little concealer, even if it is just once in a while.  It seems we need it most during the holidays.  Most people apply it under the entire eye area.  Not correct!  The best way to disguise the bags is to highlight the crease and then apply a darker shade to the puffy area.  This will give the illusion of a smooth under-eye.  Jane Iredale's Circle/Delete Under-Eye Concealer comes with two shades just for this purpose.  It's also full of Vitamin K to fade hyperpigmentation and repair blood vessels to get rid of those circles!

BEAUTY SCIENCE: Silicones

Silicones are synthesized in factories, and they're made by combining silicon (an element found in sand) with oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, and sometimes other materials. Silicones work by covering hair with a thin hydrophobic (waterproof) layer. This coating reduces the porosity of the hair.

What do silicones do?

Fall /Winter hair care tips!

The winter months are approaching us and the days are much colder; it’s time to start thinking about ways to protect your hair from the damage that the winter elements and indoor heating can cause.

During the winter months, it’s a great idea to treat your hair once a week to a deep conditioning treatment. This will help to replenish the moisture, which tends to get depleted from things such as the dry heat in your home and the cold winter air.  You can find just what you need by clicking here!

Parting with your part!

Almost everyone parts their hair...even if they don't, most hair will fall into a natural part. But where the hair naturally falls and where the part should be can really change up your look. The right part can frame a face, highlight features or simply add an extra layer of interest to your style.  So, give each part a try and see the change it makes!

The Middle Part
The signature style of ’70s beauties, this straight-down-the-center look is a chic option for any occasion or face shape. It’s a classic. For the most precise part with less risk of snagging, use the tip of a rattail comb to divide hair. If you try to part hair using the comb’s teeth, you'll encounter more tangles.

BEAUTY SCIENCE: Volume

So many of us try to achieve a full volume look or work to keep our hair looking fuller than it really is.  There are also ways to achieve volume without using products.

How do volumizing products work?
When it comes to shampoos and conditioners there is no "magic bullet" volumizing ingredient that can be added to amp up the volume. These products actually work by NOT weighing hair down. Some shampoos, and all conditioners, work by leaving a residue on hair which is great if you need conditioning, but this residue can weigh hair down and rob it of volume and body. Volumizing products are designed to leave less "stuff" on your hair so you keep more of the volume you have.

The Cold Water Rinse!

Before we take a look at some of the reasons why splashing cold water is a wonderful idea, make sure that you have thoroughly cleansed your face prior to using cold water on it.  Cold water causes those open pores to close. And if your face is soiled before you rinse it with cold water, all the dirt and grime will get trapped inside those pores. We all know that clogging up the pores can be disastrous as it can cause pimples to show up!

So...what are the benefits to splashing the cold water on your face after washing it?

Washing a face with sensitive skin!

The care of sensitive skin is important and starts with a daily routine of keeping your face clean. There is a right and wrong way to wash your face, whether you have sensitive skin or not. The skin of your face is always exposed to many elements and is affected by sun exposure, debris, environmental pollutants, and the ingredients in your skin care products or makeup.

Understanding what your skin needs to stay healthy and to combat the harmful things its exposed to daily, is the key to managing sensitive skin starting with how you wash your face.

1. Know Your Sensitive Skin Type

With sensitive skin, it's not only important to know if you have dry, oily, combination or normal skin, but also what type of irritation you're prone to. For example, you may have dry but acne-prone skin which requires special needs, or oily skin with flaky patches.. No matter which type or skin condition, choose as few products as possible for your daily routine. Using too many products or constantly adding or trying new ones, can exacerbate your delicate skin.

Hair Resque...help for damaged hair!

An extra hot blow-dry, skipping that overdue trim, morning straighteners and evening curlers – we’ve done it all to our locks. Using too much heat and not caring for our hair can damage it. If you've noticed that your hair has become a bit dry, dull and lifeless, read our guide on hair repair for tips on how to make it shine again.

How to Tell if I Have Damaged Hair

If you notice a change in your hair early enough, it will be easy to prevent further damage. Having said that, once your hair is severely damaged, you will be able to improve its appearance and make way for healthy hair growth but you won’t be able to repair it completely.

Think of it this way – both hair and nails are made of keratin. You can’t fix a broken nail but you can certainly condition, buff and apply strengthening product to make sure it still looks great and prevent further breakage. Hair is the same – there are products out there that can help your hair look fantastic but the way to truly repair the damage is hair growth.

Autumn Nail Design

Autumn is full of the bright hues of red, orange, gold and brown.  Twilight comes early, apples are crisp and leaves shimmer in the morning light.  Give your nails a touch of the fall season with this easy-to-do nail design.

1.  Paint nails a matte shade of white or ivory.  Let dry.  (Hint: using quick dry drops like Essie Quick-E or Zoya Fast Drops can really speed up the time you spend on manicures.)

2.  Using a black polish (or black nail pen), paint tree "branches" on a couple of nails of each hand.

3.  Pick out your best autumn color polishes...golds, browns, oranges, yellows or corals...and add dots (leaves) in various sizes in each color you've selected to each nail.  Make sure your brush has only a minimum amount of polish at the tip so colors don't run.  It's better to add a few at a time until you achieve the look you want.  (Hint:  a small, inexpensive paint brush, like from a child's watercolor set, makes great dots!  Just clean between colors.)

4.  Apply a clear top coat to seal!

Choose the best dark lipstick for your skin tone.

Fall & winter...fashion shades take a turn to the darker side.  If you've decided that you are actually ready to take a walk on that dark side, here’s how to find the best dark lipstick for your skin tone:

If you have fair skin…opt for rich berry tones. Contrary to what you might think, dark lipstick can look amazing on fair skin. Many people shy away from using these vampy hues because they’re afraid of the lipstick acting as major contrast against their skin. If you have cool undertones, opt for lipstick that has a blue base, like a dark berry hue. On the other hand, if you have warm undertones, go for something that has a yellow base to it. Overall, follow this rule: Stick to lipsticks that are in the berry family, like raspberry or blackberry. Avoid any shades that have too much brown in them because they could make your complexion look muddy—not vampy.

BRAND PROFILE: Well

Cannabidiol (CBD) oil is the hot new product
Now Available at BCC

Well is known for their CBD products containing ZERO THC. Their CBD is derived from industrial hemp and produced in GMP compliant facilities. All products are vegan, gluten and GMO free and not tested on animals.

What is CBD Oil
Cannabidiol is extracted from the flowers and buds of marijuana or hemp plants. It does not produce intoxication; marijuana's "high" is caused by the chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).

How Does CBD Work for Pain Management?
The human body has an endocannabinoid system that receives transmissions signals from cannabinoids in the body. In fact, there are more than 65 molecular targets of CBD in the body. A CBD rich product with NO THC, like WELL Products, provide therapeutic benefits without getting a "high" out of it.

There are CBD receptors all over our body including our skin, organs, joints, and brain. CBD naturally calms these receptors, easing and relaxing the pain we are feeling. Again, without messing with our brains.

At least 30mg of CBD, per ounce, are suggested to relieve this pain. All WELL Products have 50-100 mg of CBD per ounce, thereby assuring that pain will be relieved in a matter of minutes!  Some of the most common uses are soreness, muscle tension, inflammation, eczema, psoriasis, joint pain, TMJ, and headaches.

Shop Well Now!
*****
The non-intoxicating marijuana extract CBD is being credited with helping treat a host of medical problems -- everything from epileptic seizures to anxiety to inflammation to sleeplessness.  There are numerous clinical trials currently being conducted, however, the FDA has only approved CBD for two specific types of epilepsy at this time.

Find your best concealer shade

Instead of reaching for a thick, peachy color corrector or a brightening concealer, use this color-matching technique.  Look to the area between the nose and apple of the cheek when picking your shade of undereye concealer.  This little section of the face is the key to making concealer look seamless with the rest of your makeup and not like ghostly pale rims around your eyes.
