Charcoal Mask...Trending Now, but does it work?

It's the latest "hot trend" - a charcoal face mask.  We wanted to see for ourselves just what the hype was all about!  After all, a new year should start with a clean face! We used K-Beauty's  Charcoal Peel-off Mask (just $16.00).

The product description:  This carbon black mask is designed to remove black heads, white heads and fine hair on the forehead (keep off eyebrows) nose and chin area. Clears up clogged pores to ensure your face is left purified and fresh! Skin will appear tighter and brighter with a cool soothing feel.

Does it work?  Yes!  But be prepared for a little pain to achieve the tighter, cleaner, glowing skin!

We first applied the mask all over the face, and following the manufacturer's instructions, we kept the product off our eyebrows (we applied a little petroleum jelly to the brow to help with this).

We left the product on as directed and could actually feel it working...a little tingling and tightening sensation.  Now it was time to remove the mask!  Yee-ouch!  The pain you feel is the small hairs and dead skin being removed along with the blackhead.  To be fair, this is not an excruciating pain, but you definitely feel it.

Once the mask was removed, you could clearly see the results.  Gone were the blackheads and fine hairs. The skin looked and felt soft and smooth.

Was it worth the pain?  Yes...but this isn't a mask to use frequently.  While it does what it claims, your exposed skin is now a new, fresh layer.  Wash it right away with a gentle cleanser and then apply a hydrating, antioxidant rich serum or cream.  Be sure to use a sunscreen if you are going outside.  Your skin is more sensitive.
