What you need:
- All purpose Waxing Kit (Gigi's All Purpose Microwave Formula System is a great one. $30)
- Exfoliating Mitt
- Absorbent Powder
- Hair Trimmer (if the hair you are waxing is over 3/4 inch long)
- Hard or Cole Strip Wax
- Wax Remover
- After Wax Oil Treatment
Step 1 - Before you start waxing, exfoliate the area you wish to wax. This step is very important to help prevent ingrown hairs. Removing the first layer of dead skin cells also gives the wax a smooth surface for better adhesion. (A good exfoliating mitt is the Dermasuri Exfoliating Mitt. $20)
Step 2 - Absorb any existing moisture with an absorbent powder like Clean + Easy Lavender Absorbent Powder. ($6) Again, this will enable the was to properly adhere to your skin.
Step 3 - Trim excessively long hairs. Make sure the hair is the proper length for the wax to grab the hair and remove them on the first pass. Hairs should be neither to short nor too long - between 1/4 inch and 3/4 inch long.
Step 4 - Test the temperature of the wax. If you're using hard wax, too hot is definitely NOT good. Be sure to read the wax package instructions and get the wax to the correct temperature as directed.
Step 5 - Apply the wax in the direction the hair grows. When ready, remove the hair in the opposite direction while keeping the skin taut. Remove it in one fluid motion, without hesitation. (If this is your first time, you might want to do this with a friend, who would have no hesitation in pulling quickly!)
Step 6 - After you're done waxing, clean the area with a wax removing oil to clear skin of any wax residue. Apply your favorite moisturizer the area. You can do both in one step with Gigi Post Epilation Lotion. ($19).
