Create a Marble effect on your nails easily!

You are not going to believe how easy this is!

1.  Using a Q-tip, apply a thin layer of Vaseline on skin around nail.  This is not essential, but it does make it easier to clear away unwanted polish.

2.  Fill a small cup with cold water.  Add a few drops of each color polish you want in your marbling.  The polish will float on top, creating swirls.

3.  Dip each finger and make sure the polish sticks to your nail. Let dry, then clean edges.  Finish with clear top coat.

Blow dry to silky-smooth!

Using the right brush can make all the difference in creating and finishing your style.  To do a smooth blow-out, it's important the barrel be metal ceramic coated.  The barrel heats as you blow dry, acting as both a flat iron and allowing you to lightly curl or shape your strands.  BCC has the complete Olivia Garden professional brushes for all hair styles.

Over-dry hair solutions!

Does your hair appear dull?  Is it prone to dryness and easily loses its vibrancy?  The key to keeping hair, especially textured hair hydrated, is layering products and applying them where the hair strand is most in need.

Environmental factors like changes in temperature and humidity all contribute to hair looking and feeling dry.  Prevent this by protecting hair after every cleanse by using a leave-in moisturizer.  Macadamia Professional Weightless Moisture Conditioning Mist will protect hair from everyday stressors, detangle and add moisture.  Follow with a treatment oil from the mid-length to the ends.

Over-Washing  can result in the removal of natural oils.  If you need to wash hair daily be sure to use a hydrating mask for 10-20 minutes each week.

Prescription medication can affect hair strands and give them a dull appearance.  Use a mild clarifying shampoo that still has a healthy amount of moisture and won't strip the hair.  L'Anza KB2 Daily Clarifying Shampoo is a good one that gets rid of the surface build-up and helps normalize oil levels.  Do this only on an as-needed basis, maybe once per week.

Over-processed hair needs extra special care.  Mizani's Fiberfyl Fiber Strengthening Treatment acts as a strand-by-strand restorer.  It is formulated with give percent filloxane, a molecule that penetrates the hair fiber as a liquid, transforms into a flexible solid that fills in weak areas with a protective shield to provide damage protection without hardening.

Damaged Ends! Get help with these tips!

Damaged ends!  They make your style look tired and frizzy.  The ends of your hair are the oldest and weakest.  They have been exposed to the harsh environment and hair chemicals the longest.  You need to fix the problem as soon as you notice or the ends will continue to split and the damage expand.  To keep hair looking fresh from root to ends, follow these tips:

  • Depending on your style, the first thing you should consider is getting a trim.  Just a 1/4 to 1/2 inch can make a big difference.
  • When applying your conditioner, start with the ends and leave it on for 1-2 minutes before applying to the rest of your hair.
  • Use a leave-in product on your hair ends that is made for repair.  Two really good ones are Tigi Catwalk Hairista for Split End Repair and Alterna Caviar Anti-Aging Rapid Repair Spray.
  • Always use a Thermal Protection Spray when using heat on your hair ends. Heat hurt hair!  Think of how long your ends have had heat applied. (If your hair is 6 inches long, that's at least 9 months to a year!)

Great tips for curly hair!

SHAMPOO LESS—OR NOT AT ALL

The best way to wash curly hair is with a 100 percent sulfate-free shampoo. Sodium lauryl sulfate, the key ingredient in most traditional shampoos, is both a salt and a detergent—an effective cleanser that's too harsh for most curls. Without enough conditioning agents, it can lift the hair's cuticles, leaving hair dry and frizzy. For those looking for even more hydration, consider a so-called "co-wash" formula. Co-washing (the curly community's term for washing hair with conditioner) has resulted in the rise of cleansing conditioners.  Try Biolage Cleansing Conditioner by Matrix

CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION

Did we mention condition? The curlier the hair, the longer it takes for natural oils to travel from the scalp to the ends, causing the lower half to appear dry and frazzled. Start adding moisture in the shower.  Then protect and hydrate every inch with a styling product that doubles as a leave-in conditioner.  Just be sure to pick the right formula to deliver moisture without weighing hair down. We recommend sprays for soft curls, thicker gels for medium to big curls and denser creams for crimpy coils.  DevaCurl has just the right products to help.

STYLE YOUR HAIR WHEN IT'S SOPPING WET.

Hands off your bath towel for just one more minute—you can stave off frizz and prevent a stiff, sticky feeling by applying products before you've even stepped out of the shower stall.  Use your fingers to rake products through from roots to ends, then scrunch and squeeze upward toward the scalp.

DON'T BLOW-DRY WITHOUT A DIFFUSER

A regular nozzle disrupts the curl pattern and focuses hot air on one small section at a time, while a diffuser dries curls evenly for a full, uniform look. After applying a heat-protecting product, flip your head upside down and diffuse right at the roots and mid-length, making sure to dry the area completely to lock in volume. Do the ends last and leave them only semidry.  Because the ends tend to be more damaged, let them air-dry more.

A Trendy look without commitment!

If you've been watching all of the "trending" in hair color, you'll have noticed that nothing seems to be too much!  But if you're a little bit chicken about taking that kind of drastic step with your hair, why not try a temporary color (or multiple colors) first.  Babe Hair Chalk is a great choice. Whether you decide to make it permanent or not, you can have a lot of fun with your style.

Below, we've made it easy with the step-by-step instructions for a great result.

  1. Prep your hair. Make sure to wet the hair first so the color will attach to it. However if you’re blonde, do not wet the hair before chalking unless you want the color to stay in longer.
  2. Apply the chalk to the strand of hair in a downward motion, twist the hair as you chalk. You can try for a fun hombre look, or just do a couple strands.
  3. Let it dry. You can blow-dry your hair, but we recommend air drying so that you don't blow off the chalk.
  4. Seal the color in with a flat iron or a curling iron to add waves. Apply hair spray as a final step.

Improve or fix flaws with your eye shadow!

To make small eyes look bigger, don’t outline the contour of your eye with a dark color. Apply shimmery base eye shadow on the entire mobile lid. Highlight with a light iridescent shade under the eyebrow and in the inside corner and contour of the eye to define its outer corner. Instead of dark eye shadow along the lashes, use eyeliner along and beyond the upper lash line to elongate your eyes. Use eyeliner on the lower lid for a festive look.
For protruding eyes, matte eye shadow is preferable to iridescent as a base and contouring color. In the crease, blend contouring color halfway down to the lashes, visibly shrinking the size of the mobile lid. Curling your lashes may be the best remedy to reduce bulginess.
Mature eyes look best with a light base eye shadow all over the eyelid, and a soft highlighter under the eyebrow. Lift your eyes by applying color strictly above your upper eyelid, keeping the sides and lower lid free of base eye shadow. Use brown or grey mascara instead of black.
For Asian eyes, don’t attempt to draw a line above your natural crease with a dark color. Instead, try to create the illusion of eyelids by applying bright shimmery eye shadow on and above the crease. It should occupy about one third of the space between your lashes and your eyebrows. Be aware that this technique works well only if your eyelids aren’t saggy.
Large wide-set eyes look beautiful as they are; smaller ones need some work. Draw your shading line in the crease, close to the inner corner, but don’t deliberately try to make your eyes appear closer by applying dark eye shadow near your nose. Apply eye shadow within the border defined by the eye shape, and don’t whiten your inner corners.

Liquid or Powder Eye Shadow???

Have you ever envied someone whose eye shadow looks gorgeous and perfectly blended with clear colors.  Then, when you try to copy it you end up with a smudgy mess.  Well we have some tips for you that might just make your shadow the envy of others.

A good powder eye shadow is heavily pigmented. The color reveals itself with the first stroke and will not fade. As a rule, matte eye shadow has a more sheer texture, while shimmer (in the form of mica particles) gives eye shadow a rich texture that intensifies its color.

For easy application, and to increase staying powder, prime your eyelids with foundation or some eye cream followed by powder. Apply thin layers of eye shadow with a dry sponge applicator, and then blend with a brush.  This way you avoid eye shadow falling off the brush onto your face and spoiling your facial makeup. You also keep your brushes clear of color and ready for blending.
Use a rounded applicator to apply your base color, and a pointed applicator for contouring shades. For blending you will need:
  • a thick springy flat brush for applying highlighter and for precise blending.
  • a soft rounded brush for erasing demarcation lines by removing excess makeup.
Choose your brushes according to the size of your eyelids; the larger the area you have to work on, the bigger your brushes will need to be.

Liquid or creamy eye shadow should have a lightweight texture that is easy to apply and blend. It must dry quickly to avoid it gathering in the creases. Waterproof liquid eye shadow has the best staying power. Fluid texture is best for single color application. Because this type of eye shadow blends so well, don’t use it for more than two colors, as three shades will create a greyish mess on your eyelids. It may also occur if you use fluid creamy eye shadow together with creamy eyeliner, or an eye pencil that is too soft.  Apply creamy eye shadow with your fingertip. Blend it with a sponge applicator, or with a small synthetic brush.

Everything Mousse!

Perfect style takes more than just hairspray!  One of the favorite styling products is Mousse.  What is it for?  How do you use it?  What do you use it for?

Mousse is added to your hair for extra volume & shine.  The name is a French term meaning foam.  It was Mousse Mania when it was introduced in the 1980's era of big hair. Most of today's mousse products also provide extra conditioning.  It works by using synthetic resins to coat the hairs and assist it in taking shape.  It can also be used on curly or permed hair to reduce frizz.

As a versatile hair styling product, hair mousse is a popular choice for both short and long hairstyles. When hair mousse is applied to wet hair that is allowed to air dry, the hair is often left with a "wet" look that can be "crunchy" feeling, but unlike hair gel, hair mousse combs out easily for a softer look. When hair mousse is applied to wet hair that is dried with a hair dryer, it provides additional volume and hold.

HOW TO USE:
Thin hair types looking to achieve thick/fuller hair: Requires a ‘volumizing’ mousse. With this, you need to ensure you hair is a bit damp for the product to seal, flip your head (head facing the floor), distribute the mousse from roots to ends evenly, which can be properly done by using a comb or hairbrush. Then to finish, and add complete fullness, use a blow dryer with your head flipped upside down for 10-15 minutes.

Straight or wavy hair types looking for curly hair: For this look you will need: curlers, hair spray and mousse. This is exactly like the sections stated above, however you will need to add curlers while your hair is damp. In order to do this properly, section your hair in small sections while you apply mousse and curlers. Once the hair is dry, add hair spray to each curl from the roots to ends to ensure you receive long lasting results

WHAT TO BUY:  There are many mousse products available now.  In fact, most professional hair care product brands have a mousse.  Some have more than one, depending on what you are looking for in your style.  There are mousse's specific for volume, some add body, some are for defining curls.  Hold can be light to maximum.  You can browse all mousse products available at Beauty Care Choices on a single page and find the right one for you!

A day gardening = a sore muscles & a need for some extra beauty care!

I did accomplish a lot
so I deserve my day of
self-pampering!
The first spring day in the garden!  I love it.  I also feel it...everywhere!  There are apparently some muscles I do not use during the winter months!  I also have hat hair (must protect the skin!) and nails that need some serious attention (I hate wearing gardening gloves).  I do have shaved legs...it's so easy to get them done using the garden hose and I can actually see the hair when the sun shines.  It's always the last thing I do before crawling to the couch!

So...I've got GlamGlow's YouthMud Tinglexfoliate Treatment on my face (it is a miracle mask that you can feel drawing the skin tighter),  Moroccanoil Intense Hydrating Mask on my hair, a heating pad on my shoulders and am going to be soaking my nails as soon as I post this.  I'm going to be gorgeous...or at least repair the ravages of the first day gardening!
