Ally Answers...Skin Care Questions

I have tried so many moisturizers, but I still feel like my skin is always dry.  Why is nothing hydrating enough?  Lily P.

Ally:  You may not be using the lotion right.  Your skin should be damp when you apply a hydrator.  Hydrators act as a shield, trapping the water inside.  Right after you pat dry your skin, apply the lotion or cream.  You don't need to slather on a thick layer.  It is much better to smooth a small amount on damp skin that to use an entire bottle of lotion on skin that is already dried out.

My skin is very sensitive. I don't over-scrub, but is there anything else I can do when cleansing my face?  Julie

Ally:  Don't wash your face in hot water!  Hot water causes blood vessels to dilate.  Over time your capillaries break and your face stays red.  Use lukewarm water, then moisturize with a cream or lotion that has chamomile to sooth and caffeine which encourages blood vessels to constrict.

Choose Eye Make-up by Eye Color

For all you brown-eyed beauties out there, get ready for some fun! Brown eyes are probably the most fun color to have when it comes to doing make up. Brown has a mixture of all the primary colors, meaning most colors compliment them. One of our favorite brown eye tricks is using metallic colors. theBalm Shady Lady Racy Kacy or Jane Iredale Eye Shere Gold Silk  are easy and perfect ways to make your eye stand out and shine.   Here's a trick special for brown eyes; use a white eyeliner with your metallic tones. The white will highlight the deeper brown color and enhance the metallic in the eye shadows. If you're looking for a more sultry look try a deep plum color eyeliner like theBalm Mr. Write (Now) ScottB. Bordeax. The purple hues will provide a much stronger pop than traditional black.  If you don't think you could pull off the plum eyeliner try an eggplant mascara. It won't be quite as drastic as the eyeliner but will still give a sexy sleek pop.  One thing we find amazingly lucky for brown eyes is that they can pull off the cobalt blue eyeshadows without looking like a clown.  Jane Iredale's PurePressed Eyeshadow -Magic can give your classy, demure eyes a wild and crazy for a fun crazy look.  The biggest thing to remember is if you want your look to focus on your eyes brown eyes, then you need the pop of color. Keeping your eyes neutral is a great way to blend them in and go for a pop lip, but other than that they are neutral and classy enough by themselves.

Blue eyes can be so beautiful one second and then almost grey the next. They go from needing zero make up to needing a little extra pop depending on the light. So what's the best way to glam up your big blue beauties?  For a classy office look think about a matte pallet like theBalm Meet Matt(e)Nude.  The matte colors will enhance the white around your iris and let your blue look bluer. If you have more grey-blue eyes, sheer eye shadows will look fantastic on you! The light shine will create a fun and playful look without overwhelming your eyes' natural beauty. If you have blue eyes and are looking to do a smoky eye, try using natural colors. This gives your eyes the sexy look  of a smoky eye and keeps it simple for your blue beauties. Try gloMinerals Metallic SmokyEye Kit to achieve this beautiful look. Blue eyes are one of the few eye colors that can also rock the no bottom eyeliner look. By not using a bottom liner your eyes will look less blocked in and more vibrant.

Green eyes are one of nature's most beautiful flukes! If you are blessed with green eyes be prepared to have lots of copper and purple eye shadows! Bronze eye shadow is our favorite with green eyes. It compliments all different shades of green and can be found in matt or shimmery! BodyographyExpressions - Sunray or Youngblood Penny would both be must have staples for green eyes. The warmer tones will help green eyes stand out. Purple and green may just remind some of you of Barney. However the two colors have always complemented each other so well. Green eyes should play around with purple eyeshadows, mascaras and liners. Purple eyeliners like TIGI Perfect Eyeliner - Royalty or Jane Iredale Jelly Jar - Purple can add a very sexy, sultry look to your eyes. Something to skip with green eyes is black eyeliner or grey eye shadows. They conflict with the natural beauty of green eyes. Of course if you do use them it won't look bad but it will mask the natural beauty you already have. Our last tip is to embrace the clumpy mascara trend! Green eyes have a natural wild look about them and the clumpy messy mascara will create an overdramatic and sensational draw to your eyes. Embrace your flukes ladies!

Hazel eyes you lucky bums!! Hazel eyes basically get to wear whatever they want. With the exception of blue based colors, hazel eyes will be enhanced with every color you try! The biggest thing with hazel eyes is to mix things up. Use purple to make your eyes look more blue or light. Browns can bring out the green in your eyes and pinks will give your eyes the sexy chocolate look. Investing in something like Mirabella's Pick 4 Pallette that way you can keep changing things up.

Change up the color of your French Manicure!

This feminine and formal nail look is easy to achieve.  The darker red on the tips and lighter red on the nail bed gives you a "dressed up" feel.  Essie Polish was used.  This one is red, but you could do this with any two shades of the same color.

1.  Apply your base coat and let dry completely.
2.  Paint one layer of a bright red on all nails.
3.  Follow with a wine-red layer on each nail.
4.  Now select a very deep red and apply to each tip.
5.  Complete with a top coat to seal it all.

Ally Answers...Chest Hair Dye & Rusty Water

Am 50 year old male, looking at coloring greying chest and body hair.  When using the pubic hair dye, will the chest/arm, pubic SKIN be colored as well???  All notations in any instructions I read about, say "avoid getting dye on skin", but it seems almost impossible to color chest hair without getting any dye on the chest skin itself...  Sorry to be so stupid about this, but I'm most certainly venturing into new territory. Thanks for any feedback.  Gary
Ally:  We don't think that is stupid at all! As amazing and advanced as Betty Beauty is, it may still color skin. However, the best thing to do is any skin that may accidentally get dyed but has zero hair is apply some petroleum jelly. It acts as a perfect barrier. For the rest of your skin, try not to heavily coat it, i.e. don't be super sloppy about it, but of course some is going to touch. Simply finish the dye as instructed and then after you've rinsed the hair, use soap and water to take the dye off your skin. Don't worry this will not rub off the dye on the hair. If you have any other questions please just ask!

I would like to know what kind of shampoo and conditioner to use, I have colored and highlighted hair. Live in the country where water is rusty but have a water softner and iron filter don't see rust but get a slight bit in toilet and shower, not much but still can notice a bit in my hair.  Diane

Ally:  I know a perfect product for you! Have you ever tried Malibu C Hard Water Shampoo and Conditioner? Or even the whole kit? They are safe on color treated hair, specifically formulated for hard water and are 100% Vegan (I know you didn't ask for that but it is still kind of cool right?). This set is also great during summer because it will help protect your hair from chlorine.   Another way you can go is with a color depositing shampoo. I only offer this up because it sounds like you are already filtering out your water pretty well. With that said,  this option is also more if your water is not drying your hair out at all and just lightly coloring. Tressa Watercolors comes in many different colors and all it will do is tone out the odd rust color you are seeing.

Bits 'n Pieces...Beauty Tricks

Concealer is not the only way to fix complexion flaws.  Try wearing lipstick in a warm pink shade.  It distracts people's eyes from blemishes or other imperfections.

Looking tired and need to look refreshed?  Avoid foundation and use a tinted moisturizer instead, followed by a beige eye pencil to counteract any redness around your eyes.

Keep your eyes open when applying liquid liner so the line does not appear uneven.  Draw three dashes, one on the corner, one in the middle and one on the inside corner.  Then go back and connect the dashes.

For full lips with a glossy look try first outlining the perimeter of the your lips with a concealer brush dipped in a bronzer two shades deeper than your skin tone.  Then top with gold, peach or coral gloss.

The best formulation for your skin type!

When it comes to skin care, we've all experienced disappointment.  Quality skin care products can be expensive so the more you know before you buy can better the investment.  Getting the right formulation for your skin will help to insure the product you buy is the product you use and not just another jar or bottle that ends up in the back of the cabinet because you paid for it and don't want to throw it away.  Selecting the formulation (delivery system) is not just about what you are partial to but what benefit that particular formula has for your skin.  Today's products have lots and lots of science behind them.  You can use the chart below as a good guide for choosing what will work for you.

Formulation Skin Type
Milk & Lotion  Sensitive skin which is easily irritated, can become red and itchy.
Balm Extremely dry or dehydrated skin that is flaky or cracked and feels tight.
Micellar Water Normal and sensitive skin which has minimal irritation.
Gel Oil & acneic skin that breaks out easily and/or is inflamed and congested.
Powder Normal skin that usually has minimal oiliness or dryness.
Foam Extremely oily Skin that is greasy to the touch and shiny all day long.
Thick Cream Dry, dehydrated and mature skin that shows signs of aging and a loss of elasticity.

Dragon Fruit
Everyone has heard the expression "You are what you eat."  Even if you are already a healthy eater, there are some ingredients you can add to your favorite dish that will not only add flavor but give you the added bonus of being especially good for hair and skin health.

Walnuts - "The Free-Radical Booster" - is one of the most heart-healthy nuts, being rich in Omega-3 fatty acids and contain an abundance of proteins, vitamins and minerals that help maintain skin youthfulness.  Have them for a snack or sprinkle on your next salad.

Cayenne Pepper - "The Fat Burner" - boosts metabolism to burn fat as it adds great flavor to your good.

Kale - "The Hair Strengthener" - is a superfood.  It's is one of the healthiest foods in the world; extremely rich in nutrients that are very beneficial for healthy hair and skin.

Dragon Fruit - "Antioxidant Powerhouse" - has more antioxidants than acai berries so it is absolutely tops in helping to fight premature aging.  If you've never tasted it, it is sweet and crunchy with a flavor that is a cross between a kiwi and a pear. It is packed with Vitamin C, phosphorus, calcium and fiber too!

Shampoo Facts

Shampoo is not the most important part of washing. You can buy the most expensive shampoo on the market, but if you aren't using it correctly you won't see results. Massaging the scalp and hair as well as the rinsing are the most important parts of washing your hair.  Use the cushions of your fingers to massage the scalp while you shampoo in order to get rid of the secretion of sebum (an oily, waxy substance) so hair follicles can grow healthily from the scalp. And always be sure to rinse the shampoo completely out of your hair to prevent buildup.
Natural home remedies aren't necessarily better. Just because a shampoo contains a natural ingredient doesn't mean that ingredient is good for you on its own. Lemon, for example, can irritate the scalp and hair follicle.  Mint and menthol—which, when used in salon products can create a soothing effect—can actually cause severe allergic reactions when used in home remedies. So don't use shampoos as guides to what to use on your hair—they've all been formulated and balanced by professionals.
Less is more. Using too much shampoo—more than a quarter-sized amount––to create a lot of foam is actually counterproductive.  Foam can help you effectively work the shampoo into the hair and scalp, but too much foam actually prevents you from massaging the shampoo in properly.
Blondes need to use clarifying shampoo more often. If you have chemically treated light hair, you need to use a clarifying shampoo more consistently. Dyed or highlighted hair—particularly bleached hair—becomes very porous, so it can easily absorb unwanted yellowish tones from the outside environment, like from hairspray, perspiration, city smog and even minerals from your shower water.  Using a clarifying shampoo weekly will help dissolve product and natural buildup, neutralizing those unwanted tones.
Your hair doesn't get used to shampoo over time. If you notice your shampoo isn't working quite as well as it used to, don't toss the bottle. Your hair changes with the seasons, so that might account for a difference in texture. If you aren't rinsing thoroughly enough, there might be a buildup of product on your scalp. It has nothing to do with the shampoo not working for you anymore. You don't change your face cleanser, so why would you change your shampoo?
Even the fanciest shampoo can't permanently change your hair. Washing your hair with the right shampoo is like a great exercise program: As long as you do it you'll look good, but if you quit, three months later you're back to where you started.
Not all ingredients are created equally. Many shampoos contain foaming agents like ammonium lauryl sulfate, ammonium laureth sulfate or sodium lauryl sulfate, which are harsh and drying to the scalp.  Sodium laureth sulfate is a gentler agent, as well as TEA lauryl or laureth sulfates, which are also goo
d picks.

Applying False Lashes

Having full, dark lashes is everyone's dream.  If nature didn't accommodate you, you can still get them and they will look wonderfully natural if you follow these steps. It may take a couple tries, but once you master this easy application technique you'll have full, natural-looking lashes any time you want them.

Curl lashes  Apply a coat of mascara to make existing lashes cling together so you can see sparse areas where you should apply falsies.
Use individual lashes that come in 3-5 lashes per group.  The package should include a tiny bottle of glue and several small groupings of individual lashes.
Dab a small drop of the glue onto the back of your hand.
With slanted tweezers, grasp a single lash grouping, making sure the rounded ball base points away from you. Dip the base into the glue and wait 10 seconds for it to become tacky.
Starting at the outer corner of your eye, place a lash along your top lashline. Let dry for 10 seconds. Continue applying lashes (three to five more at most) inward until you've reached the center of your eye.

Beauty Care Choices sells both Ardell & I-Envy lashes.

Tips for At-Home Waxing

Waxing your legs for the first time?  Had a bad experience when you tried?  We have some failsafe tips that will make your waxing experience easier and you will love the results.  Waxing keeps skin free from hair for much longer than shaving and doesn't leave you with stubble or razor burn.

There are many types of waxes you can use.   There is pot wax (Probably the most economical once you have the warmer) or easy to use roll-on wax kits, as well as waxes you heat in the microwave.  Pot wax Gigi 's Wax Warmer holds both 8 oz. and 14 oz. wax pots. You can also get hair removal strips that are pre-waxed.  Just peel and apply. They are great for lips and brows!

Before You Wax
  • Exfoliate with a sugar-based scrub. This prevents breakouts by removing dead skin around your hair follicles.
  • Clean the area with a cotton ball soaked in witch hazel or a pre-wax astringent. This will remove excess oil so wax sticks properly.
  • Before applying wax, pull skin taut. That makes it easier to remove the strip in one clean motion.
After You Wax
  • Remove leftover wax by dipping a cotton ball in baby oil and swiping it over the area. The oil lubricates your skin so residue will easily slip off.
  • If you've waxed your lip, don't use antiaging products for 24 hours. Freshly waxed skin is sensitive to the ingredients in these products.

Beauty Care Choices carries Gigi, Clean+Easy and Satin Smooth brand waxing products.

Ally Answers...Afraid of red lipstick

I love seeing someone wearing red lipstick.  It always looks so glamorous.  I have always worn pastel colors but want to go bold.  I'm just afraid it will make me look like a clown.  Any tips?  Nancy G., Harrisburg, PA

Ally:  When you are used to wearing soft shades, it can be startling to see yourself with bright red lips, but if you pick the right red shade, you're going to love it.

  • If you have light skin, go with a red shade that has a cool blue base.  It will enhance your rosy complexion.
  • If your skin is dark, make sure your red has a touch of brown to highlight the warm caramel hints in your skin.
  • For those who have a medium skin tone, try an orangey-red shade that will reflect well with the yellow undertones in your skin.
Here's a little application tip for red lipstick newbies:  paint on the color with a lip brush.  It helps you control the amount of color you're using so your look is more subtle.  Just dab the brush on to the tip of your lipstick.  Lightly sweep on your lips, working from the center out.

Get it Straight - Sleek Hair Tips

Getting your hair sleek and smooth with lots of shine doesn't have to take an hour of arm stretching, back-breaking work.  Follow these steps, and you'll have gorgeously sleek hair easily!

It starts in the shower!   Use products formulated with keratin to shampoo and condition. Shampoo, then use a straight-boosting pre-conditioner to maximize the straight effect (this is key!) Goldwell's Kerasilk Rick Shampoo and Kerasilk Rich Conditioning Spray (a leave-in conditioner) are great ones.
Use a microfiber towel, not a terrycloth one, which will cause frizz.  Pat your hair, don't use the towel roughly.  Mimi"s Diva Dryer is an extra lightweight microfiber hair towel that is very gentle on your hair.

Seal in the Straight! Use a smoothing and heat-protecting balm like L'Oreal Professional Texture Expert Smooth Velours Smoothing Lotion.  Place a dime size amount in hands, emulsify and apply to your damp hair.
Blow dry your hair using a round bristle brush, pulling your hair as straight as possible.  Alternate between cool and hot settings to not overheat hair.

Now use your flat iron to straighten.  Warning: Never straighten damp hair. That sizzling sound is never a good sign!

Hair Falling Flat...Try these tips for using a Root Lifter

Even the best hair can have a flat, tired day, but when tired limp hair becomes the norm, it is time to get serious. Fortunately, there are hair care products out there that will help you achieve the desired fullness, volume, and lift your perfect style needs.
First, begin by using a good shampoo and conditioner formulated specifically for volumizing.  Then use a root lifter to style your hair.
Most hair root lift products are sold as sprays or in a mousse format. Their primary ingredient is polyvinylpyrrolidone/vinyl acetate (VP/VA) copolymer. This ingredient works by keeping the hair from absorbing moisture which would weigh it down. When the root lifter is applied to the hair at the scalp, it expands the hairs, making it appear as if you have more hair.
Always apply root lifter to wet hair and style immediately. Most complaints about root lifter are that it makes hair sticky or unmanageable. This usually happens when hair is not styled right away. Applied root lifter requires immediate attention.
Spray or apply mousse to roots of hair in small sections. Depending on your style, you may want to add just to the crown or to all roots.
Blow dry hair using a round brush and a dryer with a diffuser, lifting hair and focusing the air at the root level. Tip: if you want even more lift, try using a crimping iron on underneath sections of hair just at the root level once hair is dry. Clip top hair in place, take a small section of the underneath hair and apply the crimping iron as close to the roots as possible. Hold for a few second and release. Finish styling your hair.

If you have never tried a root lifter before and are looking, give mousse format Michael O'Rourke Rock Your Hair Size Matters Big Volume Root Lift or spray format Rusk Thickr Thickening Myst a try.

Back to School Shopping? Include lice defense!

As the months of fun in the sun come to an end it is time we start to get backpacks ready. School is just around the corner. Excitement of new classes and teachers and friends hang in the air. Shopping for new crayons, notebooks, and folders is fun and a great way to get pumped up for the new year. However, as with most things there is always a cloud in the sky.

As kid's go back to school there is always a fear of head lice. Lice is an issue almost every child has had to deal with at one point in time. After a parent gets a call from the school confirming your child has lice, there is usually a moment of panic. Bag the toys! Buy new sheets! Shave their head! All of those reactions are overkill. Lice can only live for a few hours off of a human host. Passing lice via combs, hats and jackets rarely, if ever, happens.  Another myth is that over counter shampoos and treatments don't work.

While no treatment comes with a 100% guarantee, lice are not very resilient. The biggest reason for infectivity of shampoos and treatment are because people don't follow the instructions closely enough.  Retreating to soon can leave some eggs left to still hatch and treating to late means new eggs could already be laid.
Beauty Care Choices offers a variety of products to prevent lice. Circle of Friends Tea Tree Shampoo is gentle for kids and can be used every day. The smell of tea tree keeps those pests away. Original Sprout is a full line of shampoos, detanglers and soaps that all repel lice.  The Miracle Detangler is a BCC favorite! Perfect for everyday use this spray not only repels lice but makes brushing hair incredibly easy! Don't let lice get in the way of your perfect school year

Summer Melt-Proof Make-up

Applying make-up in the summer months can be risky business if you have to spend time in the outdoor heat during the day.  Nothing can ruin your beautiful face like raccoon eyes or streaky foundation.  Blotting papers in the purse are essential to say the least!  We've got a few tips for you to keep your make-up from melting in the summer sun.

  • Always apply a primer as your first step.  It will keep your make-up fresh and enhance your complexion.  Apply with a sponge puff instead of your hands for a light, even touch.
  • Foundation will last longer if you choose a silicone-based one and, again, use a sponge puff to apply.
  • Use a cream eye shadow and cream blush during the summer will not only create a more natural look, but it doesn't cake as easily.
  • Waterproof products are your best friend.  If you don't have them, it's time to do a little shopping.  Water-proof mascara and eye liner are essential.  Don't forget to get a water-proof concealer if you use one.  You don't want the dark circles or blemish spots to suddenly reappear during the day!
  • Use a lip liner for your lips first to form the silhouette, then apply your lipstick.  Then powder your lips with your powder puff and apply lipstick again.
  • Always, always apply SPF when you go out!  You want to keep your skin in good condition and protected as it faces the intense summer sun.

Dustin Delivers...Johnny B Mode Styling Gel

I normally don't use hair gel, however, after trying Mode Styling Gel from Johnny B., I'll be sure to start.  I was immediately stunned by how quickly I was able to work the gel into my hair and how easily I was able to style it.  The product seemed to lock down the slicked back look I wanted and I never needed to mess with it after the initial styling.  I was genuinely surprised when I looked into the mirror at the end of the day, only to realize that my hair looked the same as it did that morning.  It washed out without the assistance of shampoo and my hair was back to normal.  Johnny B. "Mode" has definitely altered my opinion on hair gel and I'm sure going to keep it in my styling arsenal.  Overall, I'd highly recommend this gel for anyone who wants a product that holds a style great and provides a nice shine to your hair.

Ask Ally...What Eyebrow Product is best?

I love well-shaped eyebrows.  I think they really make a difference in how you look.  What is the best eyebrow product to use?  Jane P., Chattahoochee, TN

Ally:  The perfect eye brow product depends on the look you are trying to achieve or the problem you are trying to solve.  I've listed the three types of products below and how they are best used.  I hope this helps!

  • Pencils are good for minor touch-ups, like slightly making the tail of the eyebrow longer.  They are also easier to control.  Look for pencils with a spoolie brush on one end so you can brush your brows upward then blend the color through.  gloMinerals Precision Brow Pencil has a spoolie brush if you want a great pencil.
  • Powders require skills to apply...take a little time to practice so they appear natural.  Apply the powder with a stiff angled brush.  Powders can make your eyes look darker and give you a more dramatic look.  Powders aren't as forgiving as a pencil, but they're the best for getting a more defined brow.  I-Envy has an Eyebrow Kit with 2 eyebrow powders, 1 highlighter and 4 stencils so you can get the shape right. Sunscreen Truths - Sunscreen Essentials!

Summer means fun in the sun.  Everyone knows they should use a sunscreen, many don't and many end up sorry!  Not only sunburn, but skin that looks aged and tired results from too much exposure to the sun's rays.

Broad-Spectrum sunscreen is essential!  This means it protects from both UVA and UVB rays.  UVA (ultraviolet A) rays can prematurely age your skin, leading to wrinkles and age spots.  These are the sneaky rays that can pass through window glass.  UVB (ultraviolet B) ray cause sunburns and are blocked by window glass.  They also stimulate melanocyte cells to product more melanin, which shows up as a burn, tax, freckle, brown or age spot or hyperpigmentation.

So how do you choose the right sunscreen?  There are two types of sun blockers:
  • Physical - these sunscreens contain extremely fine particles of minerals that stay on the skin's surface and create a barrier to reflect the sun's rays.  They have a tendency the last a little longer on the skin.  Look for the active ingredients Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide.
  • Chemical sunscreens are made of synthetic compounds that absorb ultraviolent radiation.  They are good for drier skin types and offer more coverage against both UVA and UVB rays.  You need to wait at least 20 minutes after applying to receive adequate sun protection.  Look for the active ingredients Avobenzone, Octoxate, Zinc Oxide and Octocrylene.
There is no magic SPF number.  SPF 15 is good for everyday minimal exposure as long as it is "broad-spectrum".  SPF 30 is considered the perfect number by the American Academy of Dermatology, again making sure it is "broad-spectrum".  50+ doesn't really mean more protection.  The FDA has capped SPF at 50 as any higher has not been proven to give more protection.

What can we recommend?  Beauty Care Choices has many great brands that have sunscreen products.  A few of our favorites:

Robanda Anti-Aging Moisturizer with SPF30 is great to us
e daily on your face under make-up.  It contains 100% pure and active Retinol Palmitate as well as Broad Spectrum SPF30 so it protects, moisturizes, and reduces fine lines and wrinkles.
Original Sprout Face & Body SPF27 Sunscreen is a physical sunblock with natural & organic ingredients and is 100% vegan.  It is safe to use on even the most sensitive skin.
Mirabella makes both an SPF15 and SPF30 lotion and is water resistant for up to 80 minutes and is paraben, PABA and oil free.

#1 Food for Healthy Hair

Salmon! It's the #1 Hair Superstar! Besides being rich in protein and vitamin D, both of which are essential to strong hair, the omega-3 fatty acids found in this delicious cold-water fish are the true hair superstar. Your body can't make these fatty acids, which your body needs to grow hair. About 3% of the hair shaft is made up of these fatty acids. Omega-3s are also found in cell membranes in the skin of your scalp, and in the natural oils that keep your scalp and hair hydrated.
Other good choices: Herring, sardines, trout, and mackerel, as well as avocado and pumpkin seeds contain these fatty acids.Vibrant, healthy hair depends on a balanced diet. It can take longer to notice good or bad changes in your hair than in your skin. Just eat fast food for a few days and you’ll notice the acne. However, it can take a few months for a nutritional deficiency or the effects of a crash diet to show up in the hair. The nutrients you eat today help fortify the hair follicle and the scalp that surrounds it.

Other "great for your hair" foods:  Walnuts, Oysters, Sweet Potatoes, Eggs, Spinach, Lentils, Greek Yogurt, Blueberries & Prunes.  You may not like every food on the list, but for beautiful hair (and an improved waist line) add those you do like to your daily food choices!
